AfroLatindio Dreamworks was founded in 1996 by the youngest son of Dominican immigrants. Nelson W. Pereyra is a first generation American who felt an internal revolution in the pursuit to learn the true definition of his identity.
Historically, the people in the land of Hispaniola, have a mix of African, Spanish and the Taino Indians. The migration of the Spaniards, who later brought African slaves, had a major influence on what is the mestizo mix of the Dominican. It is the history of the Dominican people and its foundation of Spanish, Indian and African beginnings that gave Nelson the desire to connect with and embrace his heritage. Thus, the name AfroLatindio was born.
At the time of its inception, Nelson was leading a crop of young filmmakers at the hit television show, New York Undercover. Nelson, along with his collaborators, his brother, Robinson Pereyra, Jose Santos, Luis Columna and Lucy Reid wanted to create urban films with a universal message. The idea being that the films would tell stories that touched the human soul while transcending all colors and cultures.
AfroLatindio has collaborated with SKG, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., and Universal Television. Its business model is structured with equity building tax credits and product placement. AfroLatindio Entertainment’s mission is to be the storytellers that touch the human heart and impact people’s lives.
